first world war artwork - Menin Road III
Three paintings of Menin Road have been painted by me the artist, each contains a different interpretation of those First world war battles but they share the pain of the soldiers. I have been to the Menin Road and I paint each piece with respect to all those innocent lives lost.
Many battles were fought over the Menin Road between 1914 and 1918. It was an important route for supplies but its main advantage was the fact that it was higher than the surrounding flat countryside. Consequently the holders of the road could control the area for several square miles. It was fought over bitterly to the very end.
Other artists' like me have been moved by the experiences of their visits and there is some powerful First world war artwork to been seen particularly at The Imperial War Museum in London.
