Original Surreal Painting - A Curious Sadness

Muted colours and suggestive shapes create a sense of melancoly perhaps. Feelings are difficult to express in words and the title of a painting, particularly an abstract painting, can be misleading, however a friend of the artist suggested this title for reasons she could not fully comprehend - it was a sense, almost a sensation. The artist related and so it was named A Curious Sadness

The painting is an original surreal painting - there are no copies anywhere and the surrealism is evident. Perhaps it could be called an original minimal painting ? Yes it has few shapes whereas surreal art often has many shapes - so surrealism or minimimalism? It really does not matter, it is a Painting with Feeling.

And every painting by this Dorset artist Alan Brain  is an original abstract painting - genuine original art.

More on the title...

I asked my artist friends for suggestions as to the title for this painting and I was pleased to receive many suggestions. One stood out for me - Ailsa Brims replied I have no idea , for me it is a curious sadess - I don't know why And that's it! A Curious Sadness works so well. Ailsa has written a blog on her website which explains beautifully the feelings one can get from art, in this case surreal art (or is it minimal art?).

It is in the link the power of simplicity, click to view.
