Spanish male paintings - Hombre
This piece is one of my series of Spanish male paintings done in a minimalist way - no colour in the clothing for example. Painting figures can be tricky and my art tutor warned me with these words -
"Your eye is drawn immediately to the figure or figures in a painting be it abstract or realism. So you had better make those figures interesting."
I am still trying to do that and in this example I made sure I stopped painting once I had nothing more to say, The figure is white paper apart from the face and a small amount of line. I wanted to create a sense of proud mystery and leave the viewer to add their own interpretations.
Why Spanish male paintings? The Spanish figure has something that really interests me that I can best express in paint.
