This could be called a surreal minimal painting. It combines surrealism and minimalism each of which can be clearly categorised but this painting is both. Only two symbols exist in the painting to create a sense of space without distractions. Colour of course is important to set the feeling required and these subtle greys finish this surreal minimal painting.

Making this surreal minimal painting was challenging at all levels not least the subtle shades of grey. Greys can readily become uninteresting but are wonderful when they work. The small symbols too were demanding - they needed to be defined enough to be recognisable, the tendency was to make them unmissable. Subtlety rules.
