First World  War Painting - Poppies

Flanders is remembered for the great war battles that occurred there  during The First World War and also for the poppies. Every spring thousands of poppies bloom turning the fields red. They do not last long. Just like the soldiers who fought there, their life is brief. The poppy is now a worldwide recognised symbol of remembrance.
