Texture in a painting can be very pleasing, it gives the sense of closeness and creates a tactile response. All ranges of textures are possible from rough to smooth and a painting benefits from variety. Applying texture in watercolour requires some practice but all ranges are possible; a texturing agent can be used too of course. This painting called Flow is inspired by the power of water over rocks. The muted colours are intended to enhance the feeling of power, bold bright colours would have been too entertaining.
