The artist's challenge

Minimalism demands every mark is perfect as so few are made. One too many or one too few destroys the emotion intended.

I proceed to paint carefully, my shapes and symbols are well thought through and then glazed over with layers of watercolour.

These works are not decorative. The minimalism expresses a welcome counterpoint to the noise and urgency of the modern world.

I also paint surrealism and geometric abstraction each one is a different challenge with the same intent - to create an emotion - to make that certain feeling.

elegent minimalism - three shapes in a lavender setting
muted greens with a curious shape emerging - expressive minimalism - so simple

I have found minimalism to be the way I want to express some of those Certain Feelings - quiet calmness, serenity and more. Never noise, conflict or disquiet - I want to create a Peaceful Easy Feeling.

peaceful minimalism - browns and oranges with a distant horizon
Ponder uninterrupted - Goals
contemporary minimalism - one line intrudes into a beautiful blue and purple space
striking minimalism - two black lines across a sea of intense watercolour

Less is more in search of that certain feeling

All my minimalism is watercolour but are not painted in the traditional way - they use a little known approach that enables more control. See more on Painting Strong Watercolours
